I have one goal when I create artwork. I want to show people what I see, whether it be a landscape, a loved one's facial features, or a fantasy that exists only in my mind. I don't want to tell you what I see. In fact, I really can't tell you what I see effectively. I can try to describe it, but the best that will provide for someone is their own visualization that has some similarities to mine, but is not exactly what I see.

It its way, visual data can be a purer form of communication than words will ever be. You can catch a dishonest person in a lie by their body language. Think of prehistoric human life, and our thoughts turn to rough drawings of hunters hurling spears at great beasts on remote cave walls. Think of Ancient Egypt and most think more about artwork of animal-headed deities, and the Great Sphinx than we do the information we read in our high school World History course. People strive to capture all of their special occasions in photographic form to preserve memory exactly.

And yet, in its way, visual data can be incomplete. Alone, it is left open to interpretation. Body language gives us a "hunch" but no proof of a person's intentions. We can only guess the purpose of the cave paintings scattered around Europe, Asia, and Australia. And perhaps the Great Sphinx is telling us a story wilder and far different than we've realized.

Well, probably not, but artistic license is one of the perks of the language.

Hey! Ancient Egypt and Aliens! I bet no one's done THAT before

I didn't really have much of a plan when I started this except for where I was going to "hide" the claw. It just took on its own life from there, and that's okay. I really prefer when my art does that.

I don't normally do contests, but this was very open and fun and ended up in a piece I'm very proud of

When I saw this I panted, I LOVE sphinx and the lore behind them, when I pulled up the image and saw the UFO I fell in love. You just successfully put two of my favorite subjects in the world together! Oh the awesomeness!

I can't really critique the coloring as the medium is digital and I have very little experience with it, but I will say I love the deep purples and black, it's a goth sphinx under a UFO, even better!

You're welcome. I started work and since then I let my account go inactive, it's just getting where I can comment a little again, I had forgotten how inspiring you all were to me, it's good to know it wasn't a fickle thing that goes away with time lol.
